FORMAT
The league will consist of 10 teams and 2 divisions. Team owners will be placed in divisions based on their draft order (1 thru 10). Even numbered teams will be placed in the NFC division and the odd numbered teams will be placed in the AFC division. Teams will play opponents within their division twice and opponents outside of their division once, for a total of 13 regular season games. Playoffs start week 14 and the Fantasy Bowl week 16. A Pro-Bowl game will follow in week 17 for a chance for every team to have one last shot at winning some money.
PLAYOFFS
Six teams, the top three from each division, make the playoffs. The two teams who finish the regular season in first place in their division receive a bye in week one of the playoffs. The playoffs are single elimination and are played within the divisions. Playoff teams are decided in the following priority:
1. Overall Record
2. Division Record
3. Overall Points
4. Head-to-Head Record
Following the 13-week regular season, there will be 2 Division winners, 2 second-place seeds, and 2 Wild Card berths. On week 14, the Division winners will each receive byes. The Second place team will play the Wild Card team from their respective divisions for the honor of advancing to week 15 to play the Division winners. The winners of week 14 will advance to the Division Championship (semi-finals) in week 15 against the Division winner. The Division winner with the best overall record gets a +4 home-field advantage, and the other division winner gets a +2 home-field advantage, only for the week 15 semi-final. The winners of week 15 will advance will advance to the Fantasy Bowl in week 16, with no home-field advantage for either team. The winner of this game is declared GFFL Fantasy Bowl Champion.
PRO-BOWL
Following the Fantasy Bowl game, all Coaches will submit their ENTIRE ROSTER as their final lineup for the Pro-Bowl. All teams, regardless of record, standings, or point totals, each team will have equal opportunity to win this game. The team that compiles the most points will win the Pro-Bowl game.
DRAFT NIGHT
The draft will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003 at Greenlight in either the conference room, training room, or the break room. Attendance is mandatory and there will be no substitute drafters (i.e. dont send your buddy or girlfriend to draft for you). Owners will have one minute to make their selection and will be severely heckled if they exceed the allotted time.
DRAFT POSITION
Since this is the first year of the league, draft order will be chosen randomly by the Commissioner by drawing names out of a hat while at least 2 other coaches are present to witness. The draft order will be chosen one week prior to the draft at noon on Wednesday, August 27, 2003. For each subsequent season, draft order will be determined by the previous years standings, with the team that finished last drafting first and the Fantasy Bowl Champion drafting last. Owners may, at their own discretion, trade draft positions, but the Commissioner must first approve them to assure that two team are not in collusion.
DRAFT TYPE
Serpentine (or snake). Whoever has the last pick of the first round gets the first pick in the second round, so the even-numbered rounds go in reverse order of the odd-numbered rounds.
KEEPERS
Since this is the first year of the GFFL, there will be no keepers for the 2003 season. However, as the season progresses, the coaches and Commissioner will decide whether or not to allow coaches to keep players from the previous season. If decided, the rules and regulations regarding the Keepers will be posted.
HEAD-TO-HEAD PLAY
Wins and losses determine standings in this head-to-head format. Each week, teams will be matched up with an opponent for head-to-head play. In the head-to-head play, each team's starting lineup will be matched against the starting lineup of that week's opponent. Whichever lineup scores the most points wins the game that week. If both starting lineups are tied at the end of the week, the points of each team's reserve players are added to their score in order to break the tie. If the two teams are still tied, the game is ruled a tie.
In the event of a tie during the playoffs, the teams' overall points will break the tie. If the teams are still tied, head-to-head record will be the next tie-breaker. If that fails to break the tie, the teams head-to-head points will be used to determine a winner. The final tie-breaker will be a coin-toss.
TEAM ROSTERS
Each team will consist of 14 players. Rosters will be composed of the following positions:
Quarterbacks
Running Backs
Receivers
Tight Ends (scored as WRs)
Kickers
Defenses/Special Teams
There are no restrictions on how many players at a particular position a team must draft. It is the owner's responsibility to make sure the team will be able to fill out its starting lineup every week.
STARTING LINEUPS
Each owner will submit his teams starting lineup by midnight on the night preceding the kickoff of the first NFL game of that week. This will be midnight Saturday in most weeks, and midnight Wednesday for NFL weeks that begin on a Thursday (i.e. week 1 and Thanksgiving). Lineups MUST be submitted by either email or voicemail to the Commissioner. Sticky notes on the commissioners computer or telling me in person. This avoids any confusion as to what you sent in and, more importantly, when you sent it in. If an owner fails to submit a lineup on time, the prior weeks lineup will be used and the team will be penalized 2 points for that week. The starting lineup must consist of the following:
1 Quarterback
2 Running Backs
2 Wide Receivers or Tight-Ends
1 Extra RB, WR, or TE
1 Kicker
1 Defense/Special Teams
FREE AGENTS - WAIVER WIRE
All players not on a current GFFL team roster are considered unrestricted free agents. Owners can pick up as many free agents as they want for the season (thru week 10), but are limited to only 1 acquisition per week. Transaction day is Wednesday of each week. Those interested in picking up a player must submit their request by email or voicemail to the Commissioner by midnight on Tuesday. The request should include the player you want to drop as and the player you want to pick up, as well as any alternate choices, listed in priority. Team records determine the waiver wire order. The owner whose team sucks the mostbased on record and then total points scored, not personal opinionis on the board first. If the player you request is taken by a prior transaction (by a team that sucks worse than yours) you will be notified to authorize your alternate choice or to have your turn skipped for that week. Each owner can make up to one move a week, but is not required to do so. Players who are dropped in this process will not be available as a free agent until the following week. There will be no charge for free agent transactions.
TRADES
Owners can make as many trades as they want free of charge. The Commissioner must approve all trades. Trade deadline is the same as Free Agent AcquisitionWeek 10. No other rule applies. Teams may trade any number of players or picks for any other number of players or picks as long as the commissioner approves the trade.
INJURIES
There will be no injury backups for any player that is hurt. Owners draft players at their own risk. If an NFL player is injured, the owner is allowed to keep the player at his own leisure. The league will not allow substitute points or backup activations of any kind.
